Anxiety can be annoying at best and absolutely debilitating at worst. It can leave you feeling trapped in your head, constantly worried, and longing for some way to get on the other side of it.
The good news is that psilocybin-assisted therapy has the potential to help with anxiety in several important ways.
One of the ways it can help is by loosening rigid patterns of thinking and helping you see yourself and your life from a different perspective. It can also help you get in touch with deeper emotions and experiences that may have been locked away for a long time and contributing to the anxiety you’re carrying.
I also believe psilocybin can help people reconnect with feelings of joy, love, connection, and belonging. Anxiety often leaves us feeling isolated and alone with our thoughts. Psilocybin can sometimes help us experience ourselves, others, and the world in a more connected way.
I will add that some people experience anxiety during the actual psilocybin session. You may not be used to the altered state, or you may find yourself connecting with emotional material that feels difficult or overwhelming. This is one reason why working with a trained guide or facilitator can be so valuable.
And just as important as the journey itself is the integration afterward. Taking time to make meaning of what came up and weaving those insights into your daily life can help the benefits of the experience become more lasting.
If you’re curious about whether psilocybin-assisted therapy might be a good fit for your anxiety, I’d be happy to talk more with you about it.
